26 January New Year, New GoalsHappy New Year to all the Friends of Mikindani. We are looking forward to progress on many of our projects, especially the work to restore and renovate the Livingstone House. As soon as the necessary premissions are obtained from the local authority, we hope to get the work back underway and this important building saved for the community.
There will be some new faces in Mikindani in the coming few months. Donna Wright will be leaving at the end of her contract in April, so before she goes we will send out her replacement so that they can have a constructive hand-over period together in Mikindani. Once this person has settled in, we will be recruiting a new Education Supervisor who will be in charge of all our volunteers and the Education Section projects. This will also mean that we can restart our volunteer recruitment programme and with all these enthusiastic people on the ground, we hope to take the project forward with renewed vigour.
One other thing which will be restarted this year will be the Monthly Newsletter. This has been on hold for a few months as there has not been an Education Supervisor to oversee it. I'm sure you have all wondered why you have not been receiving it, but with luck the wait will soon be over.

We will be happy to discuss volunteering opportunities for Gap Year volunteers, which are for 6 months and depart in Feb and Sept. We also offer placements for mature and skilled volunteers who are prepared to donated their time and expertise to people less fortunate than thenselves. These placements are for 12 to 24 months and these are arranged to suit both the volunteer and the requirments of the project. |
